Six Things You Should Clean More Often

admin by admin
April 23, 2026

It is important to keep your home clean and sanitary for your own health and safety, as well as that of your family. With a busy schedule it is hard to keep track of everything that needs cleaning.

It’s possible that you don’t even realize how quickly certain things can get dirty. You should clean six items more frequently than you do.

Kitchen Sink

The kitchen sink is the dirtiest place in your house. Food particles and grease can accumulate on your sink walls and become a breeding ground of bacteria.

Since you use your sink to wash your hands and prepare food, it is important that you keep it as clean as possible.

After each use, you should clean your sink at least once a day with soap and warm water. Every day that goes by without cleaning the sink will allow bacteria to multiply and increase the chance of someone getting sick.

Dining Tables and Kitchen Countertops

Microorganisms can be spread by harmful microorganisms anywhere food is prepared, stored or eaten.

It is therefore important to clean your dining tables and countertops after every use. Clean them with an all-purpose or disinfectant cleaner and remove any spills as soon as possible.

Towels

Warm, moist environments are ideal for microorganisms. Your towels are a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.

Always hang towels to dry up after every use. Wash them with hot water and laundry detergent once a week. Your kitchen and bathroom hand towels may require more frequent washing. Replace them with new ones every day.

Shower Curtains

A dark, moist environment such as a shower or bath is perfect for mildew and mold growth .

Wash your shower curtains every month to prevent this. You can spray them after every use with a cleaning agent.

You have already waited too long if you see any discoloration on your shower curtain. If it is beyond cleaning, wash it right away or toss it.

Bedsheets and Pillowcases

Your body secretes oils and sweat when you sleep. Your bedding can be contaminated with bacteria, dust mites and other allergens.

Wash your pillowcases and sheets at least once per week to keep them clean. If you suffer from allergies, sensitivities, or have been recently ill, it is recommended that you wash your sheets and pillowcases at least once a week.

Makeup brushes and Sponges

Makeup brushes can pick up dirt, oil and dust as well as bacteria from your skin.

Unwashed makeup brushes can cause skin irritation and breakouts.

If you use makeup that is wet, it’s best to wash your brushes and sponges with soap and warm water at least once per week. Brushes can be cleaned less frequently if you are using powder makeup products. However, they still need to be washed once a week.
